One Dalton Boston
One Dalton Street is among Boston’s most luxurious buildings, with views overlooking the Charles River. However, our client’s apartment was an empty white box with uneven window recesses, dissonant ceiling moldings, and an awkward bowed wall in the hallway, visible from every room. Transforming the apartment into a warm, chic city home began by breaking up the walls and ceilings with geometric moldings to create a sense of movement towards the view. To guide the inward-facing views, comfy seating nooks were created within the window surrounds with lacquered maple walls that turn the view into a changeable backdrop. A thread of Deco-style runs throughout with rounded bookcases, curved millwork, and custom built-ins. Philip Jeffrey’s grass cloth wallcovering appears throughout, with his cloud-painted mural journeying along the hallway to transform it into an aesthetic point of interest. Warm oak flooring and statement rugs introduce sophisticated color palettes while exuberant ceiling fixtures add sculptural grace to each room. The home now floats or settles, depending on where you stand.
