Family Residence Rhode Island
A young family with two sons relocated to Providence and asked us to remodel their 1910-era home, incorporating a fun collection of antiques and nautical objects collected by the husband, an avid sailor. The design direction was to be youthful, eclectic, playful, and whimsical so we began with a classic New England color palette of blues and whites with pops of red but added modern details like a stainless metal tile backsplash for the stove and patterned window treatments. The Powder Room features a sink made from reclaimed brackets and basin. The full-service Mud/Laundry Room is carefully planned with plenty of storage for sports equipment and supplies. Citrine cabinets, red appliances, and elephant gray walls make this room interesting and fun. We maximized useable space by converting an upper hallway nook into an office, reflecting the window design on the desk’s cabinet front. Throughout, historic details settle comfortably into this modern take on old New England.
